This collection highlights the coursework I am most proud of from my time at Newcastle university. It covers a wide range of skills and demonstrates knowledge in various fields of engineering, including structural optimisation, materials science and human-factors.
This group project was my masters level group project at university, the aim was to make improvements to a semi-autonomous railway vehicle, designed to transport a load of up to 200kg, navigating standard gauge railway tracks and controlled using Bluetooth with a smartphone app.
During my time at William Sugg I started as the sole engineer, reverse engineering old drawings and workshop patterns to create digital drawings and CAD model as well producing new, bespoke designs. Later on I began project managing some of the bespoke lanterns as well as managing a junior design engineer.
This project involved research on the cognitive processes in fault detection and management of railway overhead lines. The resulting article was published in the MDPI Applied Sciences peer-reviewed journal: Applied Sciences (MDPI)
Hi I'm Joe, an engineer who's naturally curious and always looking to learn something new. Over the course of my career, I've developed a strong foundation in human-centred design, design for manufacturing, and data analysis.
I really enjoy taking complex challenges, breaking them down, and developing a solution from first principles. I'm always open to new ideas, perspectives, and opportunities to improve.
